I'd like to start off my first official post with a little introduction. I was born and raised in rural Dubuque County. I grew up spending most of my time with my large extended family. Summer was filled with days outside on the farm, at the pool, baking, shopping, and much more. This is where a lot of my current interests stemmed from! To this day, I still love to be outdoors biking, running, or swimming, and our family meets up often for shopping and baking days.
After college I moved to the Des Moines area and lived there for about two years. I loved this area! There was always something fun going on and new restaurants to try, (lots of patio beers to be had ;) but also so many trails and parks to fill my love for the outdoors. It was when I moved here, that I began to enjoy running and put several half marathons under my belt! I will always look back and love the years I spent here. I experienced so much growth during my time here, and it fueled my interests of traveling and exploring. Not to mention I was only a 10 minute drive from one of my lifelong besties.
As much as I enjoyed my time away, I found my way back to Dubuque County to be close to family and pursue another degree. My immediate and extended family has grown so much over the last few years. I now have 8 nieces and nephews! Even though I love each city for different reasons, I'm so glad I get to be close to family, and I find any excuse I can to go back and visit friends.
If you're still reading this, god bless you. While I don't intend on every post being this long - what better way to kick off the blog, than with said lifelong bestie in the previous paragraph, visiting from Des Moines? She came back to visit family and made time for lil ol' me, so we had a girls' day catching up at the winery! If you're from the 563, Park Farm Winery is likely not a novel place to you, but dang it is one of my favorites. If you're an out of town friend, I highly recommend visiting and making time for their wood-fired pizza. The views aren't too shabby either!
Anyways, thank you thank you thank you for being here. I'm so excited for what's to come! XOXO, Joanna
